Maserati Reveals Their GranTurismo MC Corse

When people think of Maserati these days, their wildly popular 400hp super sedan, the Quattroporte, usually comes to mind. But before Maserati became the new IT ride for rappers and the dudes on “Entourage,” they were known for hard core sport cars with a strong auto racing heritage. Not looking to let that heritage be forgotten, the other car company based in Modena, Italy released info and photos of their latest sports car, the Gran Turismo MC Corse Concept. Intended for track use, the Corse Concept is based on the 430hp GranTurismo S model. Weight was shaved (the interior was gutted) and the engine was completely remapped to add an extra 20 horses to the mix, bringing total power to 450hp. To cool down this beast, there’s an air inlet and two extra air vents on the hood. To make sure it handles with all that new power, the suspension and brakes were upgraded and the chassis was stiffened. There’s also a FIA approved roll cage to make it official. As the MC Corse is intended for competition you probably won’t see any of these on the road unless your crib overlooks the Nürburgring.

Koolhaas Unveils Tetris Solution to 23 East 22nd Street

Celebrated Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas unveiled Thursday his proposed design for 23 East 22nd Street that would solve the problem of not blocking the view of neighboring One Madison Park, a 60-story condominium by the same developers, Slazer Enterprises, as well as complying to zoning laws in the already congested New York City residential skyline.

Koolhaas’ proposal takes the form of a stepped cantilever design for the 18 units to be housed in the planned 24-story tower. Koolhas sidestepped the problem, literally, by varying the ceiling heights and floor spaces of the individual units, which range from a US$7 million studio to the US$50 million penthouse. When completed in 2010, the tower will house amongst other amenities a Creative Artists Agency (CAA) screening room, pool and gym.

Wyler Geneve Dakar Rally Timekeeper

Wyler Geneve is taking a major role in the coming 30th anniversary running of the Dakar Rally in 2009. The Dakar Rally is an endurance race of machinery - cars, trucks, motorbikes - which in the past has ripped from Europe through Africa. For 2009, the race is going into South America, taking participants on a grueling 9000 km race from Buenos Aires through Chile and back into Argentina. The 30th running of the Dakar Rally will allow Wyler to showcase their new shock absorbing timepiece which is made to hold up under the toughest of situations - even a rollover. That's right. Wyler claims this chrono can withstand a few tons rolling over it. Danger!

Klein Bottle House

Location: Mornington Peninsula (outside Melbourne), Australia.

The Klein bottle by Mcbride Charles Ryan is a descriptive model of a surface developed by topological mathematicians. Klein bottle, mobius strips, boy surfaces, unique surfaces that while they may be distorted remain topologically the same. I.e. a donut will remain topologically a donut if you twist and distort it, it will only change topologically if it is cut.

The surfaces that mathematicians have developed hold intrigue for architects as they hold a promise of new spatial relationships and configurations. Technology (CAD) has played an important part in all this, it is now more possible to efficiently describe more complex shapes and spaces and communicate these to the build. Previously the more orthogonal means of communication – plans, sections and elevations naturally encourage buildings which are more easily described in these terms, i.e. boxes.
